Life at cloudtamer.io: Libby

3 MINUTE READ

Meet Libby, a member of our Design team, and a child wrangler, painter, furniture refinisher, and Peloton fan when not designing cloudtamer.io.

1. Describe your role at cloudtamer.io.

As a Product Designer, it's my job to design a tool that fits into our customer's workflow and helps them achieve their goals. I take user research and technical requirements and translate them into interface designs that get passed off to developers for implementation. Mock-ups include anything from aesthetic details, like icons and color schemes, to complex form interactions and information architecture.

2. What is your go-to productivity tool as a Product Designer?

Lately it's Figma. We keep all of our mock-ups and standard components in a Figma library for internal sharing. Aside from that I pretty much always have a sketchbook with me.

3. What led you to this career?

I guess just a natural ability in art. I love to paint and I feel happiest when I have some sort of creative project underway. I did my undergraduate degree in graphic design because it allowed me to take a really wide range of fine art classes while also learning some valuable computer skills. After a few years of working in publishing and communications I wanted to transition to digital media and got my Masters in Interaction Design and Information Architecture. I love the combination of cognitive psychology and research that gets applied to design solutions in the user experience and software development fields.

4. Who do you look to for inspiration in your career?

I have a handful of colleagues and former supervisors I've kept in touch with over the years who I go to for advice and professional feedback. I also try to keep up with design trends and best practices by following various online publications like Medium, Neilson Norman Group, and UX Booth.

5. Enough about work...what are some of your hobbies outside of your 9-5?

I like refinishing furniture. Every now and then I'll find an old cabinet or dresser that someone is selling and sand it down and paint it a crazy color. I also have a children's book in my head that I've started to storyboard out. I'd like to write and illustrate that at some point.

6. What's one thing you're currently trying to make a habit?

I'm trying to do a better job of treating exercise as an essential part of my day. Living the pandemic life for the last year (working from home full time with a toddler running around and an online kindergartner in the background) has made finding time for myself harder than usual. We got ourselves a Peleton bike last year and that investment has been a great motivator.

7. What would we find you most likely doing on the weekends? color photo of Libby
Chasing my kids around! I've got two little boys and they are always on the go.

8. If you could only have three apps on your phone, what would they be?

Peloton, Pinterest, Netflix

9. Books or podcasts? Both? What are you currently reading/listening to?

Both. I recently ordered a copy of the book Start with Why by Simon Sinek. For podcasts I'm a big fan of Hidden Brain by Shankar Vedantam.

10. Favorite/most used emoji?
